These days, everyone knows all about Greek and Norse mythology. It's time the Irish got their due. This book, the first in a series, is the product of my love for both my Irish culture and the fantasy genre.
It has been lovingly researched and crafted. One of my goals with this book was to present the readers with something familiar - the Chosen One being called into action to fulfill a great destiny - while exposing them to something new, a world of Irish/Celtic myth and folklore.
Just like with my other books, I injected part of myself into the story's protagonist, Colin. He is a demigod, the child of a god and a mortal, and has grown up not knowing his father. This is something I know about firsthand. I expressed a lot of this through Colin and how not knowing his birth father and the insecurities and anxiety that have caused him.
Colin needs to learn how to manage this before even beginning the big quest that lay ahead of him. Speaking of which, what ended up going into this first book was only supposed to be the first half of my original vision. Only, and as what happens with writing, the story took on a life of its own. Colin's time spent training, dealing with his inner pain, and making friends who will help him on his quest became enough to fill a book by itself.
The good news is that the second book - which was originally the second half of my original story - is almost ready to go.
